Wow. Way overdue for a post

I can hardly believe that I have not posted on my own blog since Sept 2009. I guess using facebook has taken its place.
Still loving the house since we bought it Feb 2009. We have installed irrigation and laid new sod in the front yard. Earthworks does good work. Doug, one of the owners, stopped by today to see how it is holding up. Today I gave the sod its first mowing and edging.
Dad has safely arrived from Ocala driving his 5th wheel rv. He will be staying at an RV park in Mayport Naval Station for several months. I hope to take advantage of this time before he starts his long journey across the states.

Mom is having her bathroom painted. The popcorn ceiling is gone. The walls will have a nice neutral faux finish. One by one projects are getting done.

Prayers go out to both family and friends dealing with medical issues. I count my blessings, and pray for blessings to be given to them as well.

Watched The Forbidden Kingdom movie. I enjoyed it. The story of the outsider who must learn kung fu has been done many ways but still enjoyable.

Another Poem

Give a seed of friendship,
into what it may grow?

A weed out of place,
love choking and in that case,
 should be torn and toss,
despite the emotional loss.

A wildflower that grows quick and fast,
but lacks the roots to really last.
Out of nowhere it takes over thee,
and turns I and me into us and we.

An Annual that grows steady and bright,
and every year it feels more right.
Despite winters or rough weather,
Every get it gets much better.

A Tree that grows slow but strong,
Able to bend and endure for so long,
Setting root upon the heart,
and leading to love that will never part.

A plod of dirt on the ground,
not leaf or a stem around,
Some seeds will not sprout,
only trying will find that out.

Plant your seeds and let them grow,
Otherwise your friend garden you will never know.

Been active on facebook and my blog is overdue.

Quick write poem... see where it leads..

Workin and sleeping in daily grind,
daydream and other things nagging,
they try and  distract the mind,
making daily focus elusive, lagging.

People are so busy these days,
Without time to stop and think,
And in so many high tech ways,
Friendships turn to virtual link.

Perhaps I am wrong or just unique,
or maybe only unable to relate,
I don't know for what I seek,
if a soul mate is in my fate.

I tend to care for most that I know,
and wish the best for their lives,
but don't have the means to show,
other than pleasant Hi, goodbyes.

I tend to respect personal space,
afraid to encroach too near,
missing out on many an embrace,
afraid to cause offend I fear.

May someday my soul-mate appear,
and be apparent to my own eyes,
Melt away any doubts or fear,
and lead to the joining of our lives.

May she over look that I didn't date,
but see that I chose to wait,
and see past my quiet way,
but know my love anyway.

Know the depth of my listening ear,
thoughtfulness of my tender gift,

The respect for my beloved peer,
and intentions that uplift.

I hope I am the diamond in the rough,
waiting for that perfect jeweler's eye,
that grinds away and leaves but enough,
for me to become a happily wedded guy.

Nice Wedding

I did not want to go to bed last night. I find myself feeling awake in the afternoon and evenings. I ended up going to work at my usual time but was able to get home in time to get ready for the wedding.
The service was good and the reception great. The people, entertainment and food were great and I even danced some.. rare for me. I also participated in the "money dance" and instead of pinning a dollar I wove some into a bracelet that fit her wrist. She was pleasantly surprised and appreciative. Cameracraft.cc photographers was there in force and had the whole even covered.
I wish them the best in life.
Congratulations Ryan and Valerie Chascin!

Friends wedding

I always seem hesitant to take time off from work. I will be going into work early tonight so I can get home in time to attend a friends wedding. I am having the trouble of going to bed this early. I hope I don't nod off at the wedding. I may stop for coffee and donuts to keep me going.
Anthony's request for time off was lost, they are trying to find someone to cover his shift. The groom is a good friend of his and I hope it works out.

The figs are In and sweet. I have eaten a few, but I like Newtons better. Several friends are making preserves. I may get to try some. The tree continues to produce daily and is attracting a lot of birds, mostly blackbirds and crows. much of it is hard to harvest because it is so tall. Itried rigging a pole but figs are too soft and need hand picking.

Remove Democracy from your vocabulary

Ok. I got caught by this too. Is the United States a Democracy? -- if you said yes, place your hand to your head and repeat after Homer Simpson.. DOH! The answer is NO. Perhaps the Democratic party would like you to believe we are. We are a Republic. The type of goverment described by the term Democracy is something the founding fathers want us to avoid. The half the population could be swayed too easily and lead to downfall. So we have a REPRESENATIVE government.
Check out this youtube video I found.

We Pledge Alligiance to the flag...and for the REPUBLIC for which it stands

One Second After

I read the book One Second After by William R Forstchen in less than 3 days.
It was very gripping from the beginning and I did not want to put it down. It was very insightful and scary. If the premise of the book is possible (which I think it is), then we the U.S. are negligent and vulnerable. As I type this post on a laptop, using internet, electricity, and with them the modern marvels of this age... to loose all that in a blink of an eye is a terrifing thought. This fictional tale of an EMP strike on the U.S. raises many questions. With current events surrounding Iran, Korea, and other countries developing nuclear and ballistic capabilities, we must be aware.
The idea that even one 'small' nuke launched from a 'small' rocket like Iraq's scuds in Desert storm could render us without power, computers, cars(most use computers),air planes (most use computers), phones (most are digital at least in part) is scary.
The Forword and Afterword mention that this threat has been reviewed yet mostly ignored by the government.
I do not plan to be crazy about this, but it is enough for me to consider a larger disaster kit for this hurricane season. A kit that should be maintained year round.
I recommend this book. As past generations sought to be informed about civil defense during to cold war, we should be informed about this especially with a 'global war on terror'.
Do not live in fear... but not in ignorance either.

This months news

Moms trip to Rhode Island went well. She brought back some Del's Lemonade mix. Great stuff. She also brought some wall hangings that have our names and meanings.
She was able to take photographs ok with the camera I had got her for Mother's day.
No problems with the airlines. She says that of Richmond, Charlotte, Providence, DC and Jacksonville.. Jacksonville seemed the best airport. At least our city can do airports well.
I am typing this post on my new laptop. My desktop has been having increasing problems
and it is about time to have a nice silent functioning computer. I can now sit on pack porch or living room or kitchen and surf and type.
My dad is jealous since his computer is older than mine and he has been looking forward to getting one when they hit the road traveling after retirement. We have set up a blog for him already and have been tweaking it to his liking.

Head of household for this week

Took mom to the airport and sent her off on her trip. Her flights were on time and she checked in using my cell phone she borrowed. Me and Anthony stopped for breakfast at Mc D. They could not seem to get the orange juice dispenser filled so i ended up with Tea instead.
I went to donate blood and they missed the vein so I have a bruise and will have to cancel for 8 weeks. Bummer. I wore an ice pack on and off today to minimize the bruise. No harm, just disappointment.
While Anthony was at work I re-caulked our tub and pulled some more of the wallpaper from the master bath using DIF

Interesting Day.. Happy Memorial Day

Went to Lynch's Irish Pub for lunch and my favorite, Fish and Chips. It was delicious as always. The remodeled area looked nice. We stopped at the Whataburger to get Anthony something. The server was nice and we talked about the car because she drove the same year and model. People have been extra nice the past few days. Yesterday I had 5 different cars wave to let me go first at intersections. Customers at the store were smiling more. Maybe a day of sunshine works wonders after a week of rain.

Later me and mom did some yard work and found a cell phone in the grass. It turned out to be the stolen phone of a neighbor down the street. Someone had broke into their car this past week and and ditched the old model phone into our yard. The phone did not work and was a bit beat up but they hope to recover the data on the Sim card. Glad I decided to rake and not mulch mow. We are going to leave our driveway light on at night from now on. The neighbors tell us another persons car had been burglarized.

Washed up Washer

Wouldn't you know it.. laundry piles up and laundry day arrives.. and on the very fist load the clothes washer enters it final cycle, kicks it own bucket and agitates the operator. 2 hours spent getting into the machine to replace the belt leads to a load of disgust when it is realized that it is a direct drive washer. There is no belt. One motor and a transmission powers it all. The washers future down the drain and all washed up.

We Got it. We Bought the House

Everything fell into place. We started the FHA process Dec. 31st and was only required to pay 3% down. We Locked a rate at 5.5%. We closed in February and qualified for the $8,000 tax credit that need not be repaid. I have painted the kitchen all yellow. We raked a lot of leaves from the yard. We had the trees trimmed.
It has been one little project after another.

We are moved in. The move went much smoother than the last time we moved.
There was a leak in the roof. It was fixed. Some trouble with the A/C. It was fixed. There was a bathroom tile issue. It was fixed. The garage door had an issue. It was also fixed. Neighbors were noisy, now they have been quiet.
We are still adjusting in ways, but are very glad we moved here.
During tropical storm Fay:
We did NOT loose power.
We did NOT flood.
No trees fell on our apartment.
We work half a mile away and did not have to drive far.

Daily "Fresh Baked" Bread

I have found that I have a talent for cooking and learning new things. I have been curious about baking bread from scratch without a bread machine. My very first attempt appears to be a success. The two loaves are not the same size but that is a minor flaw. I learned a lot on this first attempt and I expect even better the next time I try it. Felt it was worth self bragging. Why not?

Belated Blogging

Have not posted in awhile. Mostly because nothing interesting has happened. I enjoyed a lovely Easter with family and friends. I donated blood again, this time a double unit. I am O Neg which is important because anyone can receive it; However, others like me can only receive O-Neg Blood. I wish I had started donating earlier.
We did some house hunting and decided we are not yet ready for a house. We are however in the planning and preparing for a move to another apartment complex. It will be within 1.5 miles of work. That will really save on gas. It is outside of the Definite evacuation zone. If a really bad one was headed this way we would probably still leave, but not like living near the inter-coastal.
The last move we did 3 years ago was VERY stressful. This is why we are really planning early for this one. Packing things we won't need for the next month or so.

Our goal is to save money and buy a house in a year or two. Changes in lifestyle have helped allow for saving. I don't have a cell phone. I bring lunch to work. I try and make errands efficiently. It does lead to boredom.
I also use payroll deductions to help save money. I hope that in my older years I will be able to travel and enjoy life more. Working 40hrs/wk for the next 50+ years is not a happy thought.
I considered seeking a part time job for my days off but I need to improve my time management first. Maybe after we move and Anthony is within walking distance of work.

I like to teach and be helpful. If any of you (friends & coworkers have questions about computers or other similar things, ask! If something of yours breaks or does not work, Ask before you throw it out. So many things can be fixed & cleaned.

Enough for now. I have work in the morning.

What's New for March

My cold is gone but now I take allergy medicine every morning to keep my nose under control.
We spend the month of March searching and planning to purchase a house closer to Hodges Blvd. We now realize that we are not financially ready for that kind of mortgage payment. We are however moving to a different apartment complex on Hodges Blvd.

The rent is going up in our current location. It is in a category 1 hurricane zone. It takes up to 20 minutes to get to work when traffic is bad. That means 40 round trip when dropping my brother off from work, or an hour if I just left work to go get him.
The new place is within 3 minutes of work. It is just outside the posted category 5 zone. The rent is slightly cheaper. We feel this is a good move.

If you are looking for a house in the Jacksonville, Neptune, Atlantic Beaches or West Intercoastal then I recommend Joan Fanton with Watson. Copyright ToddPickin.com

I messed up...Forgot it was friday.

It was my own fault. I almost ate meat last friday when kindly offered cooked sausage but I remembered it as a Friday in Lent. Then today, another friday, I have a cold. My nose is runny, my throat dry. A new Chik-fil-a near my job sent over free sandwiches and I was handed one as they passed them out. Not thinking about the day of the week I ate it since I had only toast and tea this morning. Once I arrived home and started to consider a MEATLESS dinner I realized what had occurred. And I forgot to pick up my pay stubs as I promised to do.
No more meat today or tomorrow. Pick up my stubs tomorrow. And do something to keep me focused on the day of the week.

Dissapointing Berries

One of the strawberry plants I got from Wal-Mart produced pink flowers. That is not normal for your typical strawberry. After some research, they are "Wild Stawberries" also known as "Pink Panda" strawberries. The fruits are tiny, flowers are pink. They are intended for ground cover and appearance. The fruits attract birds. The pot was merely labeled strawberry. It appears that all 3 are wild.. Not happy over that..
I will look for someone with a garden who would want them. I am not going to care for a "ground cover" plant as a houseplant and not get fruit.
At least I found out now and not after putting them in bigger pots and other investment.

Finished Book

I have finished the book Natural Ordermage. It tied up some story lines but is mostly a first half of a larger story. I have pre-ordered the Mage of Hamor that is due out in June. I added a Star Trek book by Peter David for Anthony and got free shipping.
Anthony finished the new Fair Tax book I bought and now I can read it.
I have bought some strawberry and tomato plants from the Wal-Mart that is moving for .60 a plant. I am trying to keep them indoors since our patio is on a north east corner. I set a grow light on a timer. The strawberries are looking ok, but I did not know that tomatoes do not like long days of light. I have shortened the timer and hope they do better.

I am now on DSL

Now that my 2yr Contract with Clearwire is over, I have signed up with DSL. It have a faster version of the service but plan on slowing it down over the next year. Why slower? Less money per month, save to reduce debt and hopefully purchase a home instead of renting. We are tired of renting and miss having a HOUSE. I don't do as much as I used to online and just need enough to surf, e-banking and email.
I have changed my sites link from Myspace to a page explaining that I am discontinuing using it. In the meantime I have found more co-workers on the service and am still checking it out.

National Treasure and Blood donation

Last night me and Anthony went to see the National Treasure sequel. We stopped at Sonic to eat first. We had to wait awhile and was a little annoyed. We understood as soon as we realized they had only one girl delivering orders. We made it on time to see all of the previews....and more previews. The admission tickets were free (thanks to Anthony's Coke Rewards Points).
We were the very last to leave the theater. The manager was standing in the hall waiting so he could lock up. It was a strange feeling being at Regency mall with no one around.

Today I donated blood for the first time. It took a little long because of the first time paperwork and questionnaire. Apparently we found a good vein. I bleed well and have good iron levels. I can find out my cholesterol in a few days from the website.

During the course of the game a 20ish woman threw a beer bottle that rebounded off my back and sprayed another woman behind be. Spectators around the area booed and pointed her out to security who escorted her out. The reasons behind it all are unknown and left me puzzled.
It was a great exciting game. Watch out New England!

Aha! Style Sheets!

I have finally taken the time to study cascade style sheets an understand them. I am still a novice but the ease of use and wide possibilities are great. My brother wanted to ad content in a fixed size box that scrolls. Looking up style sheet properties I applied Height, width, overflow, border and text-align to a paragraph tag. Tada. For the non technical, It allows me to use simple predefined names (properties) and give them values to change the way my page and its pieces look. Very Cool.

I moved my Ionic Air cleaner to the living room. My room is small and has the door closed most of the time. The ozone would build up and I could smell it. Hopefully it will be better in the living room.

Merry Christmas!

I enjoyed a wonderful birthday lunch with family and friends from church on Sunday. We went to Longhorn Steakhouse. I could not finish my steak at the restaurant so I finished it for dinner.
I got a $25 Hess Gas card and some seat covers for my car. I will need to exchange them beacause they are not what they seemed. It happens sometimes.

I missed the Stargate Finale due to the cable being out. They told me It will repeat dec 19th so I hope to watch it then. Just read rumors that Journeyman is CANCELED? Well, they missed the deadline to renew. Could be hesitating because of the strike, I hope they renew it.

I have attempted to meet a friend for a date but she disappeared. She is not taking any calls from any of her friends. I hope nothing is wrong. So.. no social life..still....

Little to no personal emails. Just junk, Account statements, newsletters, etc.

Christmas tree is up up but little decoration besides lights. Working in retail does dampen the spriit.

Little to no progress on my Website or Blog..
I emailed and snail mailed some friends from my 10yr High school reunion. No replies. Dissapointing.

That is all....

Journeyman

Not much going on personally. I don't want to discuss work too much since the company may not like it.
I am enjoying the new series Journeyman.
The discussion with the scientist was very sly. I get the impression the scientist understands or suspects Dan's power. It is mentioned that he worked with his father on a story. Dan also has discovered his wife/exwife Lydia is also a "time traveler". To compare this to Heroes, could Dan's dad have also had this power? Or a more far out idea, the scientist knowing his had somehow caused or led to Dan's power. Maybe exposure to an experiment or something.

I am disappointed by the ratings it has received. In todays age blogs and their content are monitored collectively. This posting is my contribution to support the show. Plus I recommend you watch the show!

Busy Day

This morning was hectic. I was not properly prepared for the work to be done. Certain details were not available until I got to work. I worked a 12hr day preparing for a review. I was unable to reduce my hours on other days as planned. I worked a busy and fast short shift today and will do so again tomorrow.
When I got home kept the energy going. It as a beautiful cool day! I opened all the windows. I replanted my strawberry plants. I swept the patio. Cleaned the screens. I washed the outside windows. I did laundry. I cooked dinner. I did the dishes. Talked with a freind on the phone and now post on my blog. 70's weather has a great effect on me. I hope to enjoy this fall.

UPDATE

I have not posted for awhile so..
Rain, Rain, and more Rain. I live 10 minutes from the beach and an apparent sweet spot for rain showers. Luckily my apartment complex drains well and flooding has not been an issue. I am not fond of driving to work at 4am on dark wet roads.
I am pleased with my job evaluation recently and its pay raise :-)
I have an 'inspection" of sorts on Tuesday to check on my work and accuracy. I worked a long day yesterday touching up things. I must have been tired and fell asleep on my break. A coworker awoke me just in time to clock back in.
Not much word from friends and family. Everyone is dealing with life's routine and unexpected events.
